New bridge and lifts open at Sydney's Macquarie Fields station

The NSW Government says Macquarie Fields station completed an accessibility upgrade on September 15, adding a 23-metre footbridge, two lifts and more platform canopy for more than 10,000 weekly passengers.

Why it matters

The changes improve access for wheelchair users, families with prams, older people and travellers with luggage; the bus stop, crossing, accessible parking and bike spaces also changed.

New Zealand ends age-only routine cognitive screening for older drivers

New Zealand's government said on September 15 that updated clinical guidance calls for individual fitness-to-drive assessments rather than routine cognitive screening based on age alone. Screening remains appropriate where there is a clinical reason.

The guidance changes assessment practice; it does not remove medical renewal requirements for drivers aged 75 and over or guarantee anyone a licence. Older drivers should discuss their own case with their practitioner.
