Lithuania confirms downed drone carried an explosive device

Lithuania's defence ministry confirmed that Italian fighters on NATO's air-defence mission shot down a drone that entered Lithuanian airspace early on September 15. Bomb-disposal experts then found and neutralized an explosive device; the operator remains unknown.

This was Lithuania's first drone interception in its own airspace, and the confirmed explosive device meets the threshold for a major regional security alert. Evidence still does not identify Russia, Belarus or Ukraine as the operator.
